Mission:

WI ACES is an objective source of knowledge and information on emerging automated, connected, electric, and shared (ACES) mobility technologies. The organization advocates for safe, equitable, democratized transportation technology adoption in Wisconsin and works collaboratively and inclusively to facilitate unbiased and technically accurate discussion about ACES mobility and interrelated policy areas. WI ACES is independent of any agency or governmental body.

Vision:

An innovative, safe, efficient, accessible and sustainable transportation system for Wisconsin.

Background

Rapid advancements in technology are transforming transportation:

  • Connected vehicles “talk” to each other and roadway infrastructure to communicate safety messages;
  • Automated vehicle technology partially or completely eliminates the need for a driver;
  • Millions of electric vehicles now on the road urgently need battery charging infrastructure;
  • A boom in shared transportation and mobility-on-demand technology has inspired new perspectives on solving urban transport problems.

Notwithstanding a few somewhat independent ACES-related initiatives, Wisconsin has been slow to fully embrace, advance and plan for these transformative transportation technologies. If progress continues to be slow or no action is taken to anticipate and foster these emerging mobility technologies, Wisconsin will miss a critical opportunity to leverage ACES advancements for the benefit of citizens and businesses. Impacts resulting from failure to take action are potentially significant, far-reaching, and could include loss of business and economic development opportunities, displacement of workers, jeopardize safety, increase congestion, increase equity disparities and degrade the overall quality of life.

Strategic Goals and Objectives

WI ACES seeks to realize its vision and fulfill its mission by embracing the following initial strategic goals and objectives:
